Mission Statement
It is the mission of the Natural Resources Committee to
support the sustainable use and enjoyment of our abundant
natural resources in a manner that safeguards and enhances
our environment over the long term.
2008 Goals
- Monitor and, as appropriate, develop positions on
individual natural resource related projects and issues;
- Organize a forum on carrying capacity with a focus
on issues such as growth and water use;
- Formulate and advocate input into the update of the
County Comprehensive Plan and zoning changes;
- Work to enhance and protect the health and
sustainability of our natural resources industries
including forest wood products in part by continuing to
provide administrative support to the Coeur d’Alene
Forest Coalition;
- Continue to support efforts to ensure regional water
quality/quantity and sustainability in the aquifer,
lakes, and watersheds;
- Support the development, adoption and implementation
of the Coeur d’Alene Lake Management plan;
- Work with the Regional Chambers Alliance as
appropriate on natural resource issues;
- Participate in natural resource-related educational
and community outreach programs including:
- Upbeat Breakfast program;
- 4-H Stock Sale breakfast;
- The Osprey Cruise
- Silver Valley Tour
- Other Tours
- Monitor and, as needed, advocate for our existing
positions on these additional issues:
- Supporting Salmon recovery;
- Spokane River Dam re-licensing;
- Controlling invasive species;
- Energy supply;
- Fire mitigation efforts for urban/forest
interface;
- Field burning and prescribed burning in forests;
- Voluntary Water Conversation
