What follows is a list of events and activities being organized by our member businesses and organizations.

OCTOBER 2008

Every Friday Night, Live music at 315 Martinis and Tapas.  Our restaurant opens at 3:15 pm and serves a selection of the best of our many catering menus as well as fun martinis, local wines, and beers. We are located downtown in Coeur d’Alene, at 315 Wallace; thus the name, "315".  Each night we have a different theme, or promotion: For example:  Tuesday Night is “Group Therapy Night” with specials on our menus for groups of three or more people. Wednesday Night is “Chocolate Obsession Night”, featuring specials on our chocolate desserts and drinks. Thursday Night is “Flight Night” with samplings of three types of martinis, wines, microbrews, and Tapas Friday Night is 315 Live! (music). Every Friday night. Our guests sit on the spacious deck, patios, and garden to listen to live music during the summer. Our performers are sheltered by the Gazebo, the focal point of the garden. During colder months, performers will come indoors, of course!  Please come and join us for an evening of delicious food, drink and fun!

RDI Heating and Cooling partners with Habitat for Humanity September 1st - October 31st.  RDI has set a goal to raise $1000 for Habitat for Humanity. From September 1 through October 31, they will be presenting Kootenai County homeowners with an incentive to help them reach that goal. Every customer that receives a furnace or heat pump maintenance from RDI will get a $20 discount on their fee when they donate $10 to Habitat for Humanity.  Schedule your furnace and heat pump maintenance between September 1 and October 31 and experience the difference RDI can make in your home and in the future homes of those less fortunate.

Sept 15 - Oct 3, Wood Art Gallery Show. 9:30 am - 2:30 pm, M-F or by appointment at the Jacklin Arts & Cultural Center, (at the old church in the Downtown Historic District of Post Falls). Featuring works by 19 Wood Artists, (Charlie Benson, Everett Best, Chris Billingslea, Dan Chadwick, Jim Christiansen, Mary Dee & Allen dodge, Russ Fairfield, Carl Herron, Dick Kurth, Greg Moffatt, Adam Olscamp, Jim Osmanski, Jerry Poindexter, Tom Reul, Rick & Fran Riddle, Ron Rock, Paul Rubero and the CdA School of Woodworking) and paintings by Joe Simpson.) Artist Reception (3rd Friday of the Month) September 19 from 5 pm - 7 pm.

Sept. 29 through Oct. 31, “Spice of Life” Exhibit.  North Idaho College’s Boswell Hall Corner Gallery, The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. On Tuesday, Sept. 30, a gallery walk will take place with the artist at 10:30 a.m., followed by a slide lecture presentation at 1 p.m. in Boswell Hall Room 102 and the opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. in the gallery.

Thursday, October 2 , 5th Annual Distinguished Humanities Lecture and Dinner featuring National Public Radio Journalist Juan Williams. 7:00 p.m. at The Coeur d'Alene Resort. General Tickets $45, Benefactor Tickets $100. Seating is assigned to tables of eight. Early reservations are recommended. Benefactor seats include private reception with Mr. Williams before dinner and close-in seating at the event.  The Idaho Humanities Council is bringing National Public Radio Correspondent and acclaimed author Juan Williams to Coeur d'Alene for the 5th Annual North Idaho Distinguished Humanities Lecture and Dinner. The event includes dinner, lecture, question and answer and book signing. A special reception for Benefactors to meet with the author prior to the dinner will be held at a private home. Williams' books will be available for sale at the event.

Friday, October 3  Thinking of Starting a Business in Idaho?  NIC Workforce Development Center, 8:30 - 11:30 a.m.

We will help you perform a feasibility analysis of your business idea so that you can assess whether it’s the right fit for you. We will highlight the registration process and the regulatory issues of a new business, and give an overview of federal and state tax responsibilities.

First Tuesdays, October through June: Entrepreneurial Leadership Training with the Idaho Small Business Development Center.  Nine-sessions beginning first Tuesday evening of each month October through June. $495, includes all materials. Tuesday, October 7, Entrepreneurial Leadership Training I. NIC Workforce Training Center, 5:30 - 9 p.m.  $495  www.idahosbdc.org 769-3333.  This 9-month business and leadership coaching program is designed to help current business owners to expand their skills and knowledge needed to develop, strengthen, and grow their businesses. The combination of workshop and personal coaching will help owners more effectively lead their businesses to increased profitability.

Wednesday, October 8, Basic Tax Requirements.  NIC Workforce Training Center, 6-9 p.m.  $39 www.idahosbdc.org 769-3333.  Ensure your knowledge of the federal and state tax responsibilities and learn about existing resources. This workshop will cover types of organizations, record and bookkeeping systems, business income tax, business deductions and federal tax forms.

Friday, October 10, Marketing: Hitting the Right Target for Profit.  NIC Workforce Development Center, 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. $29. www.idahosbdc.org 769-3333.  Knowing your key customer is the difference between making money or starving. Understand what specific need you are meeting. Learn how to use customer and competition profiles to analyze market potential and make a profit.

October 11th, NIBCA Fall into the Holidays Gift and Decor Show.  9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds.  Holiday shopping, holiday decor consulting, gifts and crafts, kids' activities and the chance to win activity passes to local attractions!  $2 admission, 12 and under are free. 50% of the proceeds will be donated to Toys for Tots.  To register as an exhibitor, contact the NIBCA office at 765-5518.

October 13th - November 7th, Glenn Grishkoff Gallery Show.  9:30 am - 2:30 pm, M-F or by appointment at the Jacklin Arts & Cultural Center in Post Falls.  Featuring the sculptural brush-like forms produced from various hairs such as deer and horse hair from this internationally known brush maker and ceramic artist.  Artists reception (3rd friday of the month) October 17th, 5pm - 7pm. 208-457-8950.

October 17th, Glenn Grishkoff Gallery Reception and hand-made brushes workshop.  5:00-7:00 p.m.  Jacklin Arts and Cultural Center, Post Falls.

October 18th, Autumn Job Fair.  10am - 12pm at the Idaho Department of Labor. You are invited to participate in the Idaho Department of Labor Autumn Job Fair. This event is for businesses who want to increase their visibility and recruit applicants for their employment needs. There is no fee for participation. This event attracts hundreds of job seekers.

Tuesday, October 21, Supervising Techniques and Setting Job Expectations.  NIC Workforce Training Center, 6-9 p.m., $59. www.idahosbdc.org 769-3333.  Supervising is different than being an employee or a manager. We will look at the unique responsibilities of this position and identify the basics of being successful. We will practice the basics and see how they can help our work. We will look at the ways to get on the right foot with an employee by effectively setting job expectations for them and ourselves.

Wednesday, October 22, Selling to the Government Workshop. NIC Workforce Training Center, 8 a.m. - 12 p.m., $29.  www.idahosbdc.org 769-3333.  Government agencies spend millions of dollars annually on projects in Idaho. Learn how you can successfully compete in this market. Topics to be covered include the process and procedures necessary to sell to government agencies and respond to bid requests. You will also gain information on resources available to assist you through the government chaos.

October 22nd, Billion $ Bag Benefit.  7pm - 9pm at the Jacklin Arts and Cultural Center in Post Falls.  $20 per person includes champagne and decadent desserts, auction of 30 handmade evening purses, designed by local quilters from hand-dyed wedding dresses! Tuesday, October 28, Interviewing to Select the Best.  NIC Workforce Training Center, 6-9 pm, $59. www.idahosbdc.org 769-3333.  Interviewing well can help you select an excellent employee, plus stay out of trouble with potential discrimination lawsuits. We will discuss legal aspects briefly and then go into the types of questions to ask, how and why they work, and how to get helpful reference information. You will leave with a list of questions to ask the next time you interview.

November 8th - 16th, St. Vincent de Paul's National Homeless Awareness Week. During Homelessness Week we will be having a breakfast soup kitchen, food drives, blanket drives, an art show at Silver Lake Mall, activities at the High Schools, a community potluck and an Volunteer Appreciation Lunch to recognize those churches, businesses, and individuals who support us year round.  Call 664-3095 for more information.

December 6th, Jacklin Arts and Cultural Center Soiree. Our annual party and fundraiser.  The highlight of the holiday season with the old church decked out in all her festive splendor.  Tickets are $125 each or $1,000 for a table of 8.  Phone for reservations.  208-457-8950.

December 12th, 13th and 19th,  Pet Pics with Santa Paws, a fundraiser for Kootenai Humane Society.  Bring your family pets for a holiday picture with Sata Paws!  Call 772-4019 for more information.
