Celebrate the Arts in October The arts & culture scene is coming on strong in Coeur d'Alene and we'll be celebrating the 6th annual Art from the Heart event from October 2nd - 11th. The purpose of this event is to give community members a taste of the arts in our area and to give art organizations a chance to demonstrate their talents. Events include music, lectures, art displays, theater and opera performances, art events for kids and an architecture walk. Citizen of the Year Nominations Due Friday This is the last week to submit nominations for the Citizen of the Year Award. The award will be voted on by the Executive Committee after considering all nominations that are received. The purpose of the Citizen of the Year Award is to recognize and show appreciation for the volunteer efforts of a community member who has exhibited generosity and service beyond the call of duty through their own actions on behalf of the community. The award honors members for their altruistic philosophy and compassionate service for the benefit of others. The submission is to be made to the Coeur d'Alene Chamber of Commerce, 105 N. First St., Ste. 100, Coeur d'Alene ID 83814 or email brenda@cdachamber.com with no more than two attachments, no later than October 3rd, 2008. The Coeur d'Alene Chamber invites you to attend the Annual Membership Luncheon on Thursday, October 23rd at The Coeur d'Alene Resort. The event is from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. and is being sponsored by Washington Trust Bank. Our major sponsors include The Coeur d'Alene Casino, Time Warner Cable and Verizon. This luncheon is replacing the Annual Banquet that the Chamber has traditionally hosted. The program includes our featured speaker, Scott Morris, CEO of Avista Corporation. We will be welcoming the incoming Chairman of the Board, Mark Fisher, and give thanks to Barbara Bradley, our outgoing Chairman. Awards will be given to the Citizen and Volunteer of the Year. October Upbeat Breakfast - First Tuesday
Join us on Tuesday, October 7th for Upbeat Breakfast, presented by the Coeur d'Alene Arts and Culture Alliance and sponsored by The Art Spirit Gallery. Chamber to Host Congressional Candidates Sali and Minnick The Chamber's Public Policy Committee is pleased to be hosting receptions for Congressional candidates Walt Minnick and Bill Sali. The reception for Mr. Minnick will take place on Wednesday, October 8th while that for Congressman Sali will be held on Thursday, October 9th. Both will take place at the Chamber Office and will begin at 5:00 p.m. Each forum will include a chance to meet with the candidates as well as hear a brief presentation. The Committee welcomes you to attend both and use this opportunity to learn more about the candidates' positions and ideas.

Chamber to Host Candidate Receptions The Chamber's Public Policy Committee will be hosting two Candidates' Forums in October. The first, on October 21st, will feature candidates for County Commissioner and the contested North Idaho College Trustee position. The second, on the 28th, will be for District 4 legislative candidates. Both will be held at the Chamber Office and will begin at 5:00 p.m. These receptions are planned as an opportunity for Chamber members to meet the candidates in an informal, networking session and then to hear each candidate speak for about five minutes. Regional Workforce Planning Workshop The Idaho Department of Labor invites you to participate in the Regional Workforce Planning Project Kootenai County Workshop, Thursday, October 9 from 9:00-11:00 AM at the Idaho Department of Labor - 1221 W Ironwood Drive, Ste 200, CDA. The Panhandle Region was awarded a $250,000 Regional Innovation Grant (RIG) that will be administered by the Idaho Department of Labor. The purpose of this planning grant is to bring into alignment economic and workforce development, education, business, community leaders and resources to meet the challenges of a changing regional economy and the known dislocation events occurring within the area's economy based on the forest products industries.
